The showcase starts and ends with glorious singers. Schlusnus, one of the most noble baritone singers of all time and a singer with depth and great heart and as you mention very suitable for Verdi singing and the style of his lieder singing is in a class of its own. Wonderful to hear the huge Mardones sing Fleta´s great hit without any tries on diminuendo singing. A real basso and probably a phenomenal experience to witness in a live performance.
Josh White was a frequent guest in Sweden and I remember that I adored him a lot as a child. An exceptional good voice with a lot of feeling and warmth. Another Tucker, far from Richard but lovely in her element. Already the title of her song gives a lot of pleasure.Phillip and Fragson was both new to me and especially Fragson made a great impression on me. And finally I think you really catch the emotion of Jobim´s phenomenal composition. The spirit is certainly there. Thank you very much for sharing and also for your knowledgeable commentaries which is highly entertaining!
